about
This song is about living in a toxic moment understanding that that it cannot last forever before the inevitable fall, symbolized by the coming of autumn. I wrote this song during a period where I was drinking too much and realized that what once fun was now starting to pull me down. I hope it serves as an allegory for others that have flirted with alcohol or drug abuse.
This is actually the third recording of the song. I tried to record versions on my first two EPs I released before going to Berklee but the production value was poor and the song suffered. I’ve learned a lot in the last 4 years, and I channeled it all into created the best possible version of this song. September is a fan favourite and usually acts as my encore song when playing live or touring, so I’m excited to have a killer version of the song that lives up to the experience of hearing it live.
lyrics
If we are caught in the eye of the storm
You are surely the iris
Your beauty has a way of binding
Even total darkness
If we’re in the eye you say that I am the heart
Thats why I’m so out of place
Maybe that’s why I just can’t read the look upon your face
And I know we can’t stay forever
But maybe just a little while
You can use me till September
And then you’ll go back to your world
so higher than mine— its fine
I dilate my demons keep them satisfied
Till then you can use me till September
But god let that be the end
You saw the blaze of my heathen soul
Stretch up to the sky
The heat from all this passion
Would burn any lesser man alive
You saw me grow from a spark to a flame
A world crumbling below
Just as quick I fade away until all thats left is afterglow
And I know we can’t stay forever
But maybe just a little while
You can use me till September
And then you’ll go back to your world
so higher than mine— its fine
I dilate my demons keep them satisfied
Till then you can use me till September
But god let that be the end
Oh god let that be the end
Oh god let that be the end
Oh god let that be the end
let that be the end
And I know we don’t get together
Haven’t seen each other in a while
Cause I decided last December
Afterglow wasn’t worth your life or mine
This time it’s not fine
I dilate my demons keep them satisfied
Till when you can’t use me in September
I’ll spend my life recovering
And I know we can’t stay forever
But maybe just a little while
You can use me till September
And then you’ll go back to your world
so higher than mine— its fine
I dilate my demons keep them satisfied
Till then you can’t use me in September
I’ll spend my life recovering
And let that be the end
